OSAP Login Tips

Here are helpful tips for using the OSAP login when applying for OSAP benefits so you can start your OSAP application process directly through the OSAP website. There is so much information available at the OSAP website when applying for OSAP so you may not think that you need to login – but you do. The OSAP is the Ontario Student Aid Program, and it offers numerous benefits exclusively for Ontario’s students that are really very attractive for the college bound.

When you first arrive on the osap website, you will have to select between viewing the site in English or French in starting the first step to the OSAP login page. Once you make this decision, and click your choice, you will be taken to the appropriate site. You may be surprised to find the wealth of information that is available at this point – without logging in. In fact, you can get all of the information that you need about OSAP and the benefits to applying without logging in.

You will, however eventially have to login to apply for OSAP funding, to check the status of your application, and to use many of the tools that are available on the OSAP website. You will be prompted to the OSAP login for any of these things, but if you just want to login directly, you may find that the place to do that is a little hard to find. There are three links in a purple bar near the top of the page. They say Home, News, and Login. Naturally, you will click Login.

If you have already registered on the site, you will enter your Social Insurance number and password on this page, and then click the Login button under that. If you have not registered, you must do so in order to access the OSAP information and forms that you desire.

If you are a new user, click the New User Registration link on the OSAP login page. The first section asks for your first and last name, your date of birth, and your social insurance number. You absolutely must provide a social insurance number, or you cannot register. If you do not have this number, you can apply for one through the Service Canada Centre Office, and you cannot register until you receive it.

The next step when you apply to a simple OSAP login is creating your password. The password must contain eight to twelve characters. One of those characters must be a number, one must be a capital letter, and one must be a lower case letter. The password cannot include any portion of your social insurance number or your name. If you do not follow these guidelines, after you hit the register button, you will be redirected to fill out the password portion again, until you get it right. You must enter the password twice for verification.

The final applying portion of this OSAP login form is the challenge questions. There are two of them. The purpose of these questions is to recover your password if you should forget it. You type in your own question, and your own answer. If you lose your password, you will be presented with your challenge questions, and you must type in the answers to those questions in order to recover it.

You can also use your challenge questions to the login page at the OSAP website if you lose your password – so you do not have to wait for a new password to be issued. When you select Login from the top of the main page, in the left hand pane, you will see Password, and then an option to Login via Challenge Questions. Once you’ve logged in using this method, you must reset your password before proceeding. Now you can get the full benefits of the OSAP website. It’s as simple as that. You can register or login to the OSAP website at OSAP login.
